I tried to open a map I am to edit and it is in the .png format - gives the error for unrecognized file format.

Does it have to be in .tmx in order for me to open it as a map in Tiled?

Or is there some way to make the map as a .png the tile set, select all the tiles and paste it to the map? The map and tile set would be the same size.

No import image?

Unfortunately this isn’t supported yet, even though I imagine it wouldn’t be that hard to implement. You can comment or subscribe on the following issue to see when it gets implemented:

In the meantime, there are some tools that can convert an arbitrary image to a TMX file + a tileset image, like ShoeBox: [http://renderhjs.net/shoebox/extractTiles.htm](http://renderhjs.net/shoebox/extractTiles.htm)
