Hi! Im living in Russia and unfortunately peaople here have very unstable access to itch.io (it works sometimes but sometimes not).
Ive seen a question about Tiled license from 2015, but I want to be sure - can I download .msi (for example) file from itch.io and distribute it from my own web site for people from Russia to have stable access to Tiled installer?
Im working on my game using Tiled for creating maps and I would like to provide my followers ability to create their own maps.
Ive created simple web site with instructions how to do it, but im not sure that i can distribute installation file that actually is not my own product
Thank you
Yes, Tiled is free software, which it gives the users four essential freedoms, one of which is:
The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others (freedom 2).
So please feel free to help your followers by providing them copies of Tiled. ![]()
To be a little more exact, Tiled is licensed as GPL v2. It does mean that if you provide copies of Tiled to others, they too must be able to enjoy the same freedoms. For example, they should also have access to the source code (though this is trivially the case if you didn’t modify Tiled).
Finally, if itch.io is sometimes unreachable in Russia, maybe you could get it from GitHub instead.
Is this means that i have to specify github or any other links near download button (to original Tiled page for example)?
Sure, such a link would be a good idea and appreciated.
