Google Summer of Code 2026

Tiled has applied to be been accepted as a mentoring organization for the Google Summer of Code 2026! We successfully mentored three students before as part of GSoC 2017 and hope to are looking forward to once again guide participating students on some exciting projects this year.

For further details about GSoC and the application process please read the wiki.

This thread is intended for self-introductions, please read the wiki before posting. In case you are interested in helping as a mentor, please let me know personally!

This is a great opportunity to work full-time for some months on Tiled. For any student new to open-source development, it’s also a great opportunity to get some relevant experience in software development and get paid to help an open-source organization.

Hey everyone, I’m interested in contributing to Tiled for GSoC 2026.

I’m interested in the Enhanced world editing project.

I have worked mainly with C, C++ and Rust. Most of my projects are systems level or tooling focused. I usually work solo but I’ve contributed to open source before, including libjxl, VapourSynth, uavs3d, CCExtractor and have a [ready-to-merge marked] pr in google/highway.

I’m comfortable with Git and Linux. I’ve worked with modern C++, and I’m ready to learn more Qt as needed.

My Github: rhythmcache · GitHub

a Public project you can look at: GitHub - rhythmcache/payload-dumper-gui: App for Windows and Android to extract Android OTA payloads from local files or HTTP URLs
C++ GUI (Dear ImGui) with Rust FFI backend.

Looking forward to contributing.

Thank you.

Hi everyone,

I’m a CS undergrad planning to apply for GSoC 2026 and I’m particularly interested in the Enhanced World Editing project.

I’ve built Tiled from source on Linux and have started exploring the world-related code to better understand the current implementation and workflow.

My primary experience is in C/C++, and I’m comfortable working with Git and in a Linux environment. I’ve also taken a GPU computing course where I worked with OpenGL, CUDA, and parallel programming. I don’t have prior experience with Qt yet, but I’m currently learning it while going through the codebase.

I’m looking forward to contributing and would appreciate any guidance on where to start.

Thank you.

Hello everyone, I’m Poonam, a CS student who recently started my open source journey. I am strongly interested in GSoC with Tiled this year.

I have good experience with Cpp, and familiarity with Qt framework. To also get familiar with the software, I also built a prototype game level with Tiled (repo: https://github.com/PoonamMehan/TiledAdventure). Being new to game dev too, it was quite a rewarding experience!
I intend to keep contributing to Tiled and would love to help complete a project as proposed in the GSoC ideas list. It would be a great opportunity for me to apply my C++ skills to a project used by real-world users and also get better at development.

Hello everyone!

My name is Dagon Williams, and I’m a CS undergrad at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

I just downloaded Tiled and made a quick rocky campsite tilemap. It’s really easy to use, and I could definitely see myself using this for a top-down or platformer game in the future.

Looking at the available projects, I believe I would be most suited for the “glTF Export for Maps” project, as I have a lot of C++ and JavaScript experience and am currently familiarizing myself with glTF. I’m also interested in the “New Hardware Renderer” project, though I would need to study up on Qt and the preferred skills.

A list of the projects that I’m most proud of can be found on ultradagon.github.io, and all of my projects on UltraDagon (Dagon Williams) · GitHub . Last semester, I worked as part of a 3-person team on a website named “What-Flix”, which is a movie recommendation app that uses a MERN stack. Over this past summer, I made Poppy’s Scuttle Slugging, a 2D Burrito Bison-like game written in C++ using SDL2. My most recent group project, as part of a team of 8, has been Strata, a version control system designed to handle large 3D binaries, such as those produced by Unity and Unreal Engine. My role in this project is the Unreal Engine integration, where I am creating the extension used to communicate with Strata’s API.

While I have yet to contribute to an open source project, I have a lot of Git, C++, JavaScript, and team experience. I would love to have the opportunity to get more real-world experience and improve my C++ and Qt skills as part of your team, and plan on staying in touch with Tiled’s development regardless.

I really appreciate the time and effort you’re putting into helping new developers gain experience. Thank you for taking the time to read through my introduction.

Hi everyone,
I’m Andrea, a CS and AI master student at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. I’m approaching open source coding for the first time thanks to GSoC. I love creating videogames, I’ve studied it for many years reading books such as the 4th edition of Game Coding Complete, and I’ve build my own little video games as fun learning experiments. Once I even started creating a super-small 2D map editor, and now I am most curious to work on Tiled.

I know C++ very well. I also have some experience with Windows Programming and Direct3D12. And a little bit of CUDA. As my master focuses on AI systems, I also know Python, and I’ve used Javascript in the past. Here’s my GitHub page, if you’ re curious.

I’m most interested in collaborating to the Enhanced World Editing and the New Cross-platform Style projects. Furthermore, I contacted a professor from my university who teaches videogame design and programming, alongside many AI courses, and he mentioned that there may be some AI features that he feels would be a fine addition to Tiled’s collection. If any of the mentors believes this is worth considering, I think we may come up with a really interesting project.

Finally, I have downloaded the source code and built and run Tiled on Windows. I also found a minor bug, and I believe I have already come up with a solution. However, before submitting any issues or PR I would like to discuss it with one of the collaborators.

Thank you for your attention and for your time.
Best,
Andrea

Hello Everyone!

My name is Youssef Zahran, I’m a computer science fresh graduate (2025) from Egypt. I’m a full stack developer with a passion for security and a game-dev hobbyist. I am also a member of my faculty’s Open Source Community, focused on using and sharing FOSS with others.

I actually first ran into into Tiled about a year ago when I needed to make a map for my uni’s game development course project, and it was exactly the tool i needed to create my map. So I was surprised when i saw it in this year’s GSoC organizations list! I wasn’t really familiar with Unity (the game engine for the course then) as I had only worked with Godot before, so Tiled helped with prototyping and making my maps for the game in Unity.

I have experience with C/C++, rust, Javascript, python and a lot more and have taken a graphics course that utilized OpenGL for making (relatively simple) 3D scenes.

I have always wanted to try and contribute to an OSS project and Tiled feels like the perfect combinations of my interests! So I’d love to join and contribute to Tiled this GSoC!

Thank you : D

Hello to everybody interested in doing a project on Tiled in this year’s GSoC! I’m really excited that there are so many of you!

I’ve just published a short update on the Tiled website about our organization being accepted this year and the wave of pull requests you have brought upon us in the short term:

Regarding those pull requests, I think it’s awesome that many of you are using this time to get familiar with Tiled development! I’m sorry that I can’t respond to all of them quickly, but I will get around to each of your contributions as soon as possible. Thank you!

Hi, my name is Ron Stephen Mathew. I’m a 3rd year Computer Science undergraduate student.

I’m interested in contributing to Tiled because I would like to gain experience working on a well-maintained open-source project and improve my C++/Qt skills while contributing something useful.

I have experience with C++, C, Python, and Linux, and I am familiar with Make, CMake, and QMake build systems. I have worked with Qt (Qt5, Qt6, Qt Quick, QML, PyQt, PySide) and have built several GUI applications using QML.

Some projects I have worked on include Pothumozhi (Qt/QML)(for Swathanthra Malayalam Computing) and Ezhuth(not open source), a Qt-based desktop writing/teaching tool (not open source). Most of my work so far has been individual projects, and I am now looking to start contributing to open source.

I’m currently building Tiled from source and exploring the codebase, and I would appreciate any guidance on where to start contributing.

Some other projects include(large scale cpp proejcts):

  1. MaQrel:- A qbit simulator using MPI and OpenMP

Hello again and welcome also to the new students who have showed their interest by introducing themselves here! There’s a few things I want all of you to be aware about:

  • Today I am focusing on bringing out Tiled 1.12, a long-due update. I realize there are still many open PRs from you which would be interesting to include, but I’d rather make this release now and then continue reviewing your contributions. There’s always a next release and I’ll try to still make one before the GSoC coding period starts!

  • A number of interested students appear to be contributing PRs but have not posted an introduction here yet. Of course they might also not read this, but if they do, please don’t forget to introduce yourself!

  • Some introductions here do not include a link to a GitHub profile. I don’t know who @ayush_65673 and @saurabh_vishwakarma are on GitHub (edit your introduction or send me a private message).

The introductions not only help me keep track of who you are but can also help others gauge their chances of being able to do a project in our organization. I’ve been trying to find more mentors but so far nobody had time, so it looks like we’ll still only have two mentors this year.

In 4 days you’ll be able to submit your proposals through Google. Keep in mind the following:

  • We do not accept AI-written proposals (check out the latest Application Process).
  • Please submit within the first week, so we can still provide feedback.
  • We recommend to have at least one backup proposal at another organization. Try to find an organization that has a better ratio between available mentors and interested students (but of course still only write proposals you’d like to work on!).

Whether you’ll be contributing as part of GSoC this year or not, know that you’re already making a difference for Tiled users with your existing contributions, as well as helping me by cleaning up the list of open issues! Thank you!
